  6. descended upon Europe strangling education and trade.  However, during the
  7. Crusades, many Europeans were fascinated by the wonders they found in the 
  8. Southern Empire of Islam.  With their new enlightenment to the richness of 
  9. other cultures, these hardy warriors for Christ returned to their feudal 
  10. estates with a new desire for the exotic wares of the East.  Out of this 
  11. want blossomed trade and a period of Gothic revival in Europe.  During this 
  12. period of High Chivalry many great artistic pieces were created, and at the 
  13. same time, some of the bloodiest wars were waged between the European nations.
  14. You are to lead one of these nations.  Your dealings with the pope and fellow 
  15. Europeans, as well as the success of your holy war against the Muslims will
  16. be crucial in your quest to become the predominant power of the age.
